Day 1:

Title: Understand the general principles in the claims handling process

  • Describe the legal requirements for a valid claim;
  • Describe the different types of policy conditions relating to claims;
  • Explain the duties of an insured after a loss;
  • Explain what is meant by proximate cause and how it is applied. 

Title: Understand insurance products and associated services

  • Describe the basic features, exclusions and warranties related to various lines of business such as motor, household, property and liability insurance.

Day 2:

Title: Understand claims considerations and administration

  • Describe the role of the claims department and the role of claims personnel;
  • Explain the importance of service standards and managing customer expectations;
  • Describe the fair treatment of customers;
  •  Describe how disputes and complaints could be resolved.

Title: Understand claims handling procedures and related claims services

  • Explain the claims handling process, including where relevant legal and regulatory protocols for the various types of personal lines and commercial lines;
  • Describe the variety of services that can be utilized in the claims handling and settlement process.

Day 3:

Title:  Understand claims handling systems

  • Describe the key features, structure and objectives of different claims systems;
  • Describe the claims function as it appears in functional and divisional structures;
  • Describe the role of the outsourcing companies.

Day 4:

Title: Understand  claims settlement

  • Describe the way that claims can be settled; 
  • Describe the process of reserving;
  • Explain how salvage affects claim payments
  • Explain the average clause.

Day 5:

Title: Understand how expenses are managed

Module One:

  • Describe the role of the claims manager;
  • Explain what leakage is and how to identify and reduce it.

Module Two:

  • General revision and practical training.

Day 6:

Title: Understand how expenses are managed

Module One:

  • Explain the types of financial monitoring and how this can impact an insurance company results;
  • Explain the basis and significance of reserving practice.
